Rita Palma: Why You Should Write Me in for B-BP School Board

Hello Bayport-Blue Point Neighbors!

I’ve launched a write-in campaign for a seat on the Bayport-Blue Point Board of Education. Write in RITA PALMA because:

* Students, families and taxpayers will always be my top priority.
* I will never hesitate to question our school district's spending to ensure that
your tax dollars are spent wisely.
* I support sustainable schools and will not look to our taxpayers to shore up shortfalls.
* I have the available time and motivation to work hard in support of our schools
and community.
* I believe that we can remain within the tax cap while still offering our students
outstanding educational opportunities.
* I have lived in Bayport for 46 years, am raising three boys and started a small
business here. I am fully invested in our community, proud of my hometown and want
to make our community the best that it can be.
* I have a good relationship with our board, administration and local representatives
as well as a broad knowledge of our school district and a deep understanding of
the issues.

My opponent, Michael Miller:

* Michael ran for Brookhaven Town Council right after he ran for the BOE for the
second time. Does Michael Miller truly want to serve on our BOE or does he simply
want to win any election?
* Is our school district just a political stepping stone for Michael Miller?
* As a teacher and coach for Mattituck, does Michael Miller really have the available
time to serve on our BOE?
* Would Michael's influence on teacher compensation potentially create a conflict
of interest?

Please consider these fair questions when you visit the polls.

It is very disturbing to me that the Sayville Bayport Blue Point Patch chose to publish a NEWS article for Rita Palma...a write in candidate for the BBP Board of Education election. This is obviously not presented in a fair manner and is a political advertisement. Where are the other "articles" from the slated candidates? This should have been posted in your bulletin board section where other self published blogs and advertisements are published. While I understand the Patch is understaffed and having difficulties lately, have some journalistic integrity. This is clearly journalism 101.

Rita Palma is a smart candidate who is trying to get elected via a Write In campaign- not an easy thing to do but I listed to her interview and I found it very impressive. I met Miller and he seems like an upstanding guy but I want real progress for the schools - with a 68 million budget our students should be getting the the best academic experience possible.

@ friend, the other candidates write an article? I am sure theirs would have been given the same platform.

I don't know him. Was he aware this one was going to be published? A responsible news forum would have reached out to any opposing candidates to offer them equal space.
