PTA Plant Sales Help School Funds Grow

These annual sales help to raise funds and let students buy a gift for Mother's Day.

A few days before Mother’s Day every year, all the PTAs in Bayport-Blue Point School District hold plant sales as a way to usher in the spring season and raise money.

The halls of  were lined with geraniums and basil plants for their PTA Plant Sale.

Debbie Fiorentine, who belongs to Blue Point PTA and chairs the plant sale committee, explained what an important fundraiser the plant sale is.

As with any PTA event, it could not happen without the parent volunteers. They (along with the children) unloaded the flower trucks the night before and set everything up in the morning.  They are also there for the plant sale to assist the children in picking out the perfect plant for mom.

Blue Point Elementary student Sean Druckenmiller purchased a tray of vegetables and herb plants for his mom.

“I got seven plants for our garden at home. Lots of tomatoes," he said.

Anything that does not sell gets raffled off, unless it's a perennial plant. At Blue Point, any leftover perennials are planted in the school’s garden to bloom every spring.
