PTA Fundraiser Makes Thanksgiving "As Easy As Pie"
Academy event shows there's hard work involved in fund raising, but the result's delicious.
Tuesday afternoon Academy Street Elementary School's cafeteria was full of pumpkin, coconut custard and apple crumb pies for pie order pick up day, just in time for Thanksgiving.
Carole Samson of Academy Street PTA Ways and Means Committee initiated this first-time fundraiser at Academy after a similar event at the middle school.
The timing was no coincidence. Samson said she thought parents would appreciate the Tuesday before Thanksgiving pie pick up.

“A lot of people don’t bake and they run out on Thanksgiving to get pies," she said. "We did this not only as a fundraiser, but as a convenience for parents.”
According to Samson, 122 pies were ordered by 40 families. She thinks that once the word gets out about how delicious the pies are, next year’s order will be huge.

Academy PTA took pie orders through the end of September, as the family owned company, Grandma's Country Pies, handmakes each order. They were delivered to the pickup location frozen to make for worry-free travel.
Parents were able to order any pie imaginable – blueberry, pecan, Boston cream, and even cheesecakes.
