PTA Planner: New Playground

The first of three new playgrounds is ready for kids.

Sliding down slides and hanging from monkey bars, the children of gathered before classes to officially open their new playground on Tuesday morning. Finally, the giant yellow ribbon hanging in front of the slides was cut and three children slid down to signal the playground was officially open.

Superintendent Anthony Annunziato was at the playground ribbon cutting ceremony along with other school board members. He said he is grateful for having parents dedicated to keeping their children safe and happy.

“It was a community effort," he said. "The parents knew we needed new playgrounds at the elementary schools because they were dilapidated. It was really their support that made this a reality and I would like to say thank you. And I am so happy that the kids are so happy on the new playground.”

Academy Street Principal Kerry Vann said she is happy the anticipation has come to an end. “The kids absolutely love it," she said. "They have been hearing about it for well over a year, so they have been patiently waiting for the new playground. They are completely excited about it.”

Academy Street School was the first of the three elementary schools that will revamping their playgrounds.  Blue Point Avenue Elementary School and Sylvan Avenue Elementary School will have their new playgrounds completed in the coming weeks.
