Prince Of Peace Holds Annual Fashion Show

Students wear fashions from local retailers on the runway.

Prince of Peace Regional Catholic School held its 21st annual Fashion Show and Fundraiser at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook last week with the help of local retailers who donated this season’s looks for the runway.

Some of the fashions modeled by students were provided by Ooh La La, Cargo Company, Rosie’s, Estelle’s Dressy Dresses and more.

The event, coordinated by the President of the Parent’s Association Theresa McKenna and Chairperson Paula Cartagena, gives the students a chance to participate in helping their school raise funds. This year's theme was "A little bit country."

"The kids are eighth graders and they get to model and get a chance to shine if they choose to," said Jean McQuillan, a volunteer parent. More than 100 baskets were up for grabs at the Chinese auction, donated by local merchants, parents and students.

Some of the raffles included a chance to win a Kindle Fire and an original work of art by Long Island’s own Diane Costanza. A donation by Dorothy’s Fine Jewelry is a staple at the fundraiser every year. “Dorothy’s Fine Jewelry is a big supporter of our school. She donates a lot. She’s very generous,” McQuilllan said.

The goal of the fundraiser is to decrease the cost of tuition and keep it affordable for students. “The fashion show at Prince of Peace is the biggest fundraiser of the year and we critically depend upon the funds to run the school. Having a strong school is important to all of us. This is a very special place for us,” McKenna said.

The atmosphere was full of pride and fun behind the scenes as parents helped the students get ready for the fashion show with hair and makeup and many parents volunteered to help set up baskets on display for the Chinese auction.  “It’s a small school and the principal knows all the kids by their names. We try to be a part of the community,” McQuillan said.

Prince of Peace has many other fundraising events throughout the year. Some other upcoming events include a Breakfast with Santa and a Cookie Walk for the Holidays. For more information on fundraisers and events at the school, visit their website at www.poprcs.org.
