Information on how to navigate back-to-school time in Bayport and Blue Point.

We know Bayport-Blue Point residents may think they know everything that's going on in the area, but there are events, programs and places that even a lifelong resident may not be aware of.  Bayport-Blue Point Patch wants to highlight all that's fun, interesting and new in B-BP so residents can take advantage of the opportunities for entertainment our community offers. Every week, we'll post something to try in the area, eventually counting down to #1.

If it's after Labor Day, that means it's time to go back to school. The first day for the five schools in the Bayport-Blue Point School District was today- Tuesday, Sept. 6.

In the district there are three elementary schools, and for the most part where you live decides which school your child will attend.

Children that live south of Montauk Highway in Bayport go to Academy Street Elementary School; Blue Point Elementary School is for kids that live in Blue Point south of Montauk Highway, and for children that live in Bayport and Blue Point north of Montauk Highway- they enroll at Sylvan Avenue Elementary School. Then there's James Wilson Young Middle School and Bayport-Blue Point High School.

Although general information about each school is common knowledge, even the most seasoned parent may not know the wealth of information that is available on the school district website.

There are tabs for upcoming events, district flyers, newsletters, educational news, sex offender notices, lunch menus and access to your child's report card.

Also, there are pages dedicated to the Board of Education and PTAs, with meeting minutes and agendas.

Each school in the district has a page to access more in-depth information, including school rules, calendar of events, email addresses of all staff and teacher websites.

Since the district saves money by not printing the school year calendar, it's only available on their website. So, print it out at home.

Take some time to navagate the district website.
