New Records for Sayville Varsity Girls Volleyball

Two seniors rank top 10 in New York State.

Not only did two Sayville Girls Volleyball Varsity team seniors, Kayla Mergl and Alexis Brown, contribute to the best Golden Flashes Varsity season to date, Kayla and Alexis finished within the top 10 rank for New York State this season.

With some of the best stats in Sayville's Volleyball team history, under the direction of Coach Debbie Urso, the regular season ended with such record-breakers as:

  • 9-3 league and 20-6 non-league;
  • Alexis Brown (#10), Senior “Outside Hitter,” posted a school record and career high of 30 kills, twice during the year. She led the league in hitting percentage and kills finishing with 311 kills, ranking seventh in New York State;
  • Senior Setter Kayla Mergl (#1) led the league with 585 assists, ranking eighth in New York State, setting a school record of 50 assists in a single match.

The girls volleyball team is currently in the playoffs. They are playing Wednesday at 8 p.m. at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue.
