Meet Whiz Kid Kara Intermesoli

Meet Sayville's younger generation in this weekly column.

Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Kara Intermesoli

  • Kara Intermesoli, 13-years-old and a student at the Middle School, was nominated by her principal Thomas Murray.
  • Kara has completed more than 70 hours of volunteer service since July of 2010. This summer she spent more than 50 hours volunteering at camp HorseAbility, located in Melville, working with a 15-year-old boy who has cerebral palsy. She played, cheered, spent time at the pool, worked on arts and crafts, and guided him around the camp.
  • In Principal Murray’s words: "For the past three years, I have watched Kara grow into a fine young woman.  Her service at HorseAbility is one example of her selfless devotion to others.  She exhibits the following characteristics on a daily basis: empathy, compassion, dedication, team work, and a willingness to go above and beyond to make Sayville Middle School and the surrounding community a better place to work and live.  Kara has advocated at school board meetings for children with disabilities.  She has maintained a GPA of over 90 and has participated in various school activities.  I whole heartedly recommend Kara Intermesoli for recognition as a Sayville Patch Whiz Kid."
