Local Students Spend Vacation Helping Those in Need

West Sayville Christian School Missions Team spends vacation week helping in the midwest.

By Marybeth Ermmarino

A group of West Savyille Christian School middle school students and alumni spent their winter vacation week  helping renovate a church in Chicago.

The students spent their time working and living at La Villita Community Church in South Lawndale IL.  They gutted, cleaned, primed and painted a large room which will be used for the youth in the area. They also cleared out a room that was hit by lightening, carrying blasted bricks, cement blocks and charred lumber down eight flights of stairs filling two industrial sized dumpsters.

La Villita Pastor Victor Rodriguez and his family have a vision for improving the community, ministering to the lost, and opening the church's arms to all. Mission leader and chaperone Genie Rose described the experience.

"It was really great encouraging the kids to serve by going out to facilitate Pastor Victor's vision and to spread God's love through service. The truth is that the mission continues even after the trip, to reach out to others, to show the love of Christ, and to help others achieve their God given vision."

West Sayville Christian School is an Interdenominational Christian School serving kindergarten through eighth grade for more than 60 years.
