How Does the School Budget Impact Those Without School-Aged Children?

Are residents without children in the distirct willing to pay the increased school taxes?

The Sayville Board of Education recently , which stands at $81.77 million, representing a 3.87 percent increase in spending and a tax levy of 7.39 percent.

Leading up to the May 17 vote, Sayville Patch is looking deeper into the budget process and how the increases will impact residents. How do residents without children in the school district feel about this increase?

Tony Chliek, a Sayville resident since 1977 whose son graduated in 2000, said that he supports the budget and views it as a good investment.

“I'm all for spending money on education. My late wife was a teacher for 34 years and I saw first hand the effect she had on her kids and their parents for that matter,” said Chliek. “There is no better way to spend our tax money as far as I'm concerned. I am interested in seeing our kids get the education we all deserve. They are our future, so it's a great investment.”
