Fifth Graders Move Up and On In Bayport-Blue Point

Students at Academy, Blue Point and Sylvan elementary schools were recognized at their respective moving-up ceremonies.

eighth graders weren't the only ones to at year's end, fifth-grade students at the district's three elementary schools, , and , were recently recognized at each of the schools’ moving-up ceremonies.

Teachers, administrators and Board of Education and community members acknowledged these young graduates for their achievements, some of which included prestigious awards. Students from each school will come together to attend James Wilson Young Middle School next year.

Certain awards were presented to select students who displayed outstanding achievement in different areas. The Presiding Officer’s Award, given by Legislator William J. Lindsay, was presented to the most well-rounded students, while the Lion’s Club Award went to the students most active in community service and the Presidential Academic Awards to those selected for their outstanding academic achievement.

Students from each school also displayed their vocal and instrumental skills as they performed several musical selections, including “Watch as We Walk on Our Way” and “I Wish You Well My Friend,” along with each respective school’s theme song.

Students were acknowledged for their contributions to not only the district but to the community as well, and were encouraged to continue their hard work in the future.
