Two Sayville seniors, James Giattino and Emily Andres, who demonstrated excellence both in the classroom and on the athletic field, received the 2012 Suffolk Zone annual NYSAPHERAD Award.
Giattino is a two-year starter on the varsity football and basketball teams, is a member of the student government and Athletes Helping Others. This young man’s compassion, intensity, and commitment to excellence have led to his academic, athletic, and community-service successes.
He plans to attend either Amherst or Middlebury College, where he intends to play football and study Pre Med.
Andres has distinguished herself in the classroom as well as on the athletic field. She has a 97 average in physical education and is a member of the volleyball, winter and spring track teams. While her physical gifts are impressive, it is her spirit that she brings to competition that truly differentiates her in comparison to her peers.
