Ending School With An Ice Cream Social

Blue Point Elementary students eat and play at annual end-of-year PTA event.

Blue Point Elementary School kids celebrated the end of the school year with scoops of ice cream and outdoor play at the school's annual Ice Cream Scoial organized by the PTA.

After dismissal Wednesday morning students and parents gathered behind the school for a cup of ice cream or an Italian ice. Unfortunately, just as the students lined up for a cool treat on the humid day, it started to rain. But, everyone stuck around and patiently waited to pick out their favorite flavor.

Due to the soggy weather, the games that the PTA had set up around the playground were postponed until the next sunny day.

Blue Point PTA co-secretary Meredith Lessing said the event caps off the year with some fun, and serves as a way for the PTA to demonstrate their gratitude to the kids and community for the year-round support.

“It's a way for us to thank the parents and kids for always coming to our events," Lessing said. "We get to put on so many great events during the year. The fact that they come and support us – the ice social is a great way to say thank you.”

Third grader Morgan Woolley stood in the rain eating her rainbow Italian ice, and said the social is a highly-anticipated event among the elementary students.

“I was looking forward to this all day," Woolley said. "It’s really fun because you get ice cream and it’s free.”

Despite the rain, all the children left with ice cream and a smile.
