Community Meet-and-Greet for School Chief Draws a Crowd

Dozens of parents and taxpayers got the opportunity Tuesday night to talk with Dr. Vincent Butera.

The casual cookies and coffee event Tuesday night to welcome newly hired Bayport-Blue Point Superintendent Dr. Vincent Butera was nearly standing-room only at the high school cafeteria.

Among the dozens of parents were district staff and administrators, many of which had dinner with the new leader prior to the BOE community program.

The Board of Education first held a special meeting to formally approve the hiring, which they did in a unanimous vote.

"We are very pleased to have this gentleman as our leader," said Board President James March after the vote, noting several achievements by Butera during his role as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction at the Long Beach School District.

"We are so glad this day has come," said March.

During the community meet-and-greet Dr. Butera mingled and talked with residents about his background as an educator and also about the many challenges facing districts on Long Island. He is scheduled to start his new job as of December 1.
