Cherry Avenue PTA Holds Tag Sale

Weather holds out for the third annual event.

In previous years, the weather hasn't cooperated, but this year the PTA held its annual tag sale outside the school on April 30 and the weather was beautiful. This is the third year the PTA has been organizing the fundraising event, typically held during the last week in April.

This year’s event coincided with the Earth Day celebration at the Common Ground in town but bargain shoppers came out to strike a deal. One teacher located a bin full of small favor boxes that she was going to use as a ladybug habitat for her students. “We’ve never really had great luck with the weather but this year it seemed to turn out OK,” said Christine Pensabene, PTA member in charge of the tag sale.

Other PTA members jokingly called Pensabene “the garage sale lady” because of her expertise in organizing the event. “She is just perfect for this event and she knows all her prices so we just rely on her,” PTA members said.

There were books, toys, collectibles, antiques, strollers and more donations were still coming in the morning of the sale. “This event is just perfect because it allows everyone to clean out their garages, get rid of all their old stuff and it is a 100 percent profit for the PTA,” Pensabene said.

Donations came from PTA members and Cherry Avenue families. The best part is whatever doesn’t sell at the end of the day is donated to Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
