Celebrating Better Hearing And Speech Month

Cherry Avenue learn fun lessons.

For three weeks in May, which was “Better Hearing and Speech Month,” Sayville's Cherry Avenue Math Facilitator Debbie Abrams and Speech-Language Pathologist Patty McLary collaborated on Communication Estimation Games for the students, connecting language awareness with their math activities.

Filling three jars with items that represent or relate to communication skills, one jar was filled with magnetic letters, a second jar contained wax lips, and the third jar had fortune cookies, the students examined the contents and made their mathematical guesses.

In addition, the students created posters for a school-wide competition on the topic of May being Better Hearing and Speech Month.
