Busy Close to the Year for Lincoln Avenue PTA & Students

School PTA plans for the end of the school year at recent meeting.

The PTA held its monthly meeting on April 6 and highlighted all the upcoming events as the school year comes to a close. PTA President Sharon Rinaldi started the meeting by reading two letters from teachers praising the success of the recent PARP program.

The coupon book sale recently ended, bringing in close to $2,000. The David’s Cookies fundraiser is currently taking place with sales due later in the month. Other fundraising events scheduled through the remainder of the year include: a book fair on April 28 and 29; a tag sale on May 1; a plant sale on May 5; and a Ducks game on June 20.  Family Fun Night will be held on April 29 and this month will feature a talent show at the old Junior High School. The class moms of Lincoln Avenue are busy preparing baskets for the end of year dinner and also soliciting donations from local businesses.

Lincoln Avenue principal Dr. Michele LeBlanc spoke to parents about the upcoming exams in May and June and how children will be given more reading assignments to help prepare them for the longevity of the tests. The TerraNova scores for the second graders recently went home.

Anti-bullying week is set to kick-off April 11. April 15 is the official anti-bullying day and students are asked to wear pink t-shirts to school. There are different activities scheduled to take place throughout the week. On April 11, Officer Ward will come to the school for a presentation to the fourth and fifth graders. On April 12, the kindergarteners will receive push-in lessons on anti-bullying. There is a four-week McGruff program for grades one and two that kicks off on April 13.  On April 14, the fifth graders will be performing skits on bullying situations. Anti-bullying posters designed by students will be displayed throughout the building.

On May 22, will be celebrating the grand opening of their new wellness center. There will be a triathlon, a 5K run and kid’s fun run. Other upcoming events noted by Dr. LeBlanc include: a presentation by the kindergarteners on what they learned in school this year on April 14; a dedication ceremony for Lincoln Avenue’s new peace pole, which features writing in multiple languages on April 15; the Battle of the Books, also on April 15; and Field Day on June 2.

Dr. LeBlanc encouraged parents to attend the upcoming board of education meetings. The , and while it is a sacrifice for many, it is essential in keeping the district’s programs intact, she said.
