Sayville Students Honored For Academic Achievements

Board of education recognizes youngsters for their efforts at recent meeting.

The Sayville Board of Education, along with school principals, recognized students  for their academic achievements throughout the year at the June 9 Board of Education meeting. Parents and families were also on hand to applaud their efforts.

The following students were recognized:

Chloe Argenziano received the Suffolk Zone Physical; Ryan Hendrickson received the Education Leadership Award; Dea Ahlgrim, Madeline Schaefer, Kaitlin Weber and Katherine Post received awards from SCMEA; Abigail Sneddon received a perfect score on the WordMasters Challenge for Grade 4; Douglas Read was a finalist in the “Super Stuff for Sports” category in the “Kids” Science Challenge; Karah Castagna was honored as the Statewide 1st grade winner from the New York State 2011 Sun Wise with Shade poster contest.

The following students were named in the top 25 percent in the Country for National Spanish Competition: Kevin Mauro, Nicholas Cowan, Tara Rini, Sarah Walsh, Timothy Costorf, Mariana Dominquez, Liam Haber, Zoe Gomes, William Fridrich, Gianna Fazio, Lucas Brennan, Emma Philbin, Mackenzie Burns, Jordan Darmento, Rachel Lynch, Justine Odierna, Anthony Vetere, Alina Winiecki. Lauren Colavito, Rebecca Seeba, Michaela Seeba, Michaela Colon, Erin Koehler, Isabella Mangan, Kimberly Redka, Anthony Virga, Tara Litvin, Autumn Bradley, Brianna D’Amico, Sarah Koehler, Nicholas Medile and Jessica Reilly.

Alexandra Severin and Jessica Reisert received the Town of Islip Student Achievement Award

Sean Caraher received the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Distinction Level in Verbal & Math

Matthew Oskey and Michael Rolland received the John Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Distinction Level in Verbal.

Matthew Tomko was the First Place Winner in the 2nd Annual Suffolk County Math Contest at Brookhaven National Lab.

The following students were honored for their work as Participants in the 2nd Annual Suffolk County Math Contest at Brookhaven National Lab:  Shane O’Donoghue, Christine Guinessey, Owen Guinessey, Lara Beth Hirsch, Emily Sneddon, Timothy Costorf, Kevin Mauro, Liam Haber and Dalen Ferrreira.

The following students were honored for their first place division finish as Mathletes: Michael Rolland, Lara Beth Hirsch, Shane O’Donoghue, Cielle Pappalardo, Matthew Tomko, Sean Velazquez, Jillian Brudi, Emily Sneddon and Savannah Votino.

The following are the anticipated members of the military from the Class of 2011: Eric Abrahall, Christopher Bailey, Justin Bonamico, Christopher Capone, Timothy Carey, Christopher Dyroff, Gregory Fountain, Daniel Ryder and Daniel Siegel.

Class of 2011 Salutatorian: Kathreen Mangaluz

Class of 2011 Valedictorian: Tracey Rosa

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
