Blue Point First Graders Celebrate Literacy

The elementary students participated in a Fancy Nancy writing project.

As a culmination of their fall writing activities, the first-grade students in
Mrs. Magee’s class at Blue Point Elementary School participated in a Fancy Nancy Writing Celebration.

Since the start of the year, the students have been focused on learning about personal narratives and practicing this writing technique during their literacy work. After completing draft-writing assignments, the students had the chance to visit the classroom’s ‘fancy word wall’ to not only help strengthen their vocabulary, but also to see if there were any new descriptive words they could incorporate into their original compositions.

During the celebration, the students shared their fall leaf poems, essays on
their families’ Thanksgiving traditions and pieces centered on the theme of hope, which they created following Hurricane Sandy as a way of describing what hope means to them.
