B-BP Students Rally for ROHHAD Awareness

Students created paper 'boxing gloves' to knock out ROHHAD.

May is ROHHAD Disease Awareness Month, and Sylvan Avenue Elementary School marked the occasion with several activities

An incurable and newly described syndrome, ROHHAD stands for “rapid-onset obesity with hypothalamic dysregulation, hypoventilation, and autonomic dysregulation.”

Often considered an “orphan” disease because of its rarity, ROHHAD affects the school on a personal level, so extra effort was put into increasing the community’s awareness of the condition.

Students and families filled out and designed colorful paper boxing gloves to help “Knock Out ROHHAD,” participated in a “Read for ROHHAD” event during the school’s literacy night, helped raise funds for the cause by visiting the local Berry Fresh, which vowed to donate a portion of the proceeds from a ROHHAD awareness theme night to research, and even danced during recess time to “Rock Out for ROHHAD.”
