As the culmination to a yearlong focus on character education, Blue Point Elementary School students came together for an end-of-year assembly.
“The school is always looking for new and exciting ways to get the students involved in their own learning,” explained teacher and Character Education Committee member Kim Benedict.
“At the beginning of the year, the committee had the idea of creating a schoolwide video highlighting the wonderful talents of our students.”
During the year, the school hosted a series of character education programs, each focused on a different trait. Students were encouraged to embody these qualities in their daily activities, and leading up to the year-end program, were videotaped singing the chorus of the school’s adopted “Respect Rap.”
At the final character education program of the year, the completed video, which was put together with the help of school computer specialist Jen Rains, was broadcast for all students to see.
As a complement, a selected student in each class wore a blue or yellow T-shirt with their class picture from the video on the front, as a reminder that the Blue Point school is a building where character counts.
