BBP Library Budget Approved, McAward Elected to Board

The vote tally was 232 to 58.

Bayport-Blue Point voters approved the proposed 2012-2013 library budget of $2,206,174 by a tally of 232 to 58.

Kim McAward won the open Bayport-Blue Point Library trustee seat with 136 votes. Opponents Elaine Hill finished second with 76 votes and Murray Schwartz received 65 votes.

The lifelong Blue Point resident ran for election “because I love our library and recognize it as an invaluable resource and treasure in our community. It would be a privilege to be a part of this.”

The approved budget features a 1.94 percent tax rate increase.

The new tax rate will be .99 cents for Islip Town taxpayers and $13.60 for Brookhaven Town homeowners. In both towns the library portion of the property tax bill is approximately 4 percent of the total bill, according to a budget brochure created by the library.
