BBP Girls Track Grabs League Title for 6th Consecutive Year

The squad is currently 6-0 in League VII.

The Bayport-Blue Point girls track team is now the undefeated League VII champions after beating Wyandanch on Wednesday.

The girls are currently 6-0 and last week defeated rival Shoreham-Wading River 84-66.

Entering the season, the team had just come off a league championship in the winter season and a third-place finish in the Small School Championship meet.

This year’s league championship is the Girls XC/Track & Field Program's sixth straight league championship dating back to cross country 2010.

As of this week, the girls team is one of the best small school teams in NY State.

Jordan Collins currently ranks first in the discus and second in the shot put in the state along with Bailey Walker being ranked first in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles and Rachel Steinmuller as the best racewalker in the state.

Casey Hasher has the fifth fastest 400-meter hurdle time in the state while Katie Saroka has the seventh fastest 2000 meter steeplechase time.  Bailey Walker also has the sixth fastest 400 time being one of the few girls in BBP history to break 59 seconds in the 400 meters (one lap on the track).

The relays are the team's strong points as the 4x400 team of Sam Triani, Casey Hasher, Courtney Dooley and Bailey Walker is ranked second in the state at 4:04.08. The 4x800 team of Katie Saroka, Courtney Dooley, Bailey Walker and Taylor Darby just took third in the St. Anthony's Invitational with a time of 9:31. That time is the third fastest 4x8 time in school history.

As the season continues, the team will look for its second straight county championship on Tuesday May 22 and Thursday May 24 competing against other great teams like Miller Place, Sayville and Shoreham Wading River.

After the county championship meet, the team will compete at the state qualifier meet at Port Jefferson High School to see who will be competing in the state championships at CNS High School in mid June.

If all goes well, some girls will even qualify for the National Championships in North Carolina in late June.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
