B-BP BOE Budget Hearing, Board Meeting Tonight

Agenda includes principal appointment, trip approvals and staff retirement actions.

The Bayport-Blue Point Board of Education meeting tonight includes a final budget presentation as well as several administrative actions, including the formal appointment of a new high school principal.

The BOE meeting will begin a half hour earlier than usual, at 6:30 p.m. at the high school cafeteria, in order for the district finance leader to present a final review of the proposed budget that will be voted on May 21 by residents.

The meeting's agenda indicates the formal BOE meeting will start at 7 p.m. Included on the agenda is the appointment of a new high school principal, as well as a presentation regarding the top 10 high school students.

Regarding personnel decisions, the agenda indicates several more teaching staff and resource staff retirement actions, including science teacher Amanda Marley, high school nurse Barbara Schwall.

The BOE is also expected to establish the First Lego League program on the elementary students in an effort to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The First Lego League Club will be funded at a cost not to exceed $7,500.00

The board is also expected to approve a slew of district programs and field trips for the next school year, including the eight grade trip to Montreal in May, 2014, a trip to Costa Rica in February, 2014 and a college visitation trip to SUNY Oneonta next May.
