Bayport-Blue Point Patch Whiz Kid

Site launches new feature to honor kids every week.

Each week, Bayport-Blue Point Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual  kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.  Submit your nomination in our comment box below or e-mail the information to Emily@Patch.com. Patch Whiz Kid: Lillian Horne

Accomplishment: Lillian will represent the Bayport-Blue Point School District at the Long Island Spelling Bee as part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Key to awesomeness: Lillian qualified as one of 20 students who will compete for a chance to represent Long Island at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May. Lillian was named the winner of her school’s spelling bee and then competed in the next round, which consisted of a written test.

Lillian will participate in the final bee, the Long Island Jewish World Spelling Bee, on Thursday, March 10 at 5 p.m. at Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School. She is the first district student to advance to this level of the competition.
