B-BP Students Take a Stroll on the Yellow Brick Road

Academy Elementary fourth graders put beloved musical on the school stage.

Witches, a wizard and a colorful cast of characters were front and center as
the fourth-grade students in Nancy Celentano’s class performed the beloved play “The Wizard of Oz” at Academy Street Elementary School in the Bayport-Blue Point School District.

The performance came as a fitting conclusion to a literary study on the book and movie of the same name. To prepare for their theatrical debut, the class put in months of preparation studying the original classic novel by L. Frank Baum and comparing and contrasting it to the movie version.

Reading scripts during their Reader’s Theatre study, the students practiced speaking with expression and learning about the different roles in the production. With the help of some parent volunteers and their teacher, the
class crafted beautiful scenery pieces and tirelessly practiced the different musical numbers.

During their two-show debut, the students took to the stage to perform the
nearly one-hour play before audiences filled with family and friends.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
