B-BP Students Forge Friendships, Enjoy Hands-on Learning

The annual eighth grade trip to Frost Valley is more than a break from the classroom.

James Wilson Young Middle School eighth-grade students received a hands-on lesson in teamwork and cooperation this fall when they took part in the school’s annual trip to the YMCA outdoor education camp, Frost Valley.

During the four-day excursion, the students were able to participate in a variety of outdoor activities, including rock wall climbing, Project Adventure, low ropes course training, hiking, canoeing, Native American art and games, apple cider making, exploring nature at the pond and in the woods, and touring the house on the property. The students also heard a presentation from the camp’s “Birdman,” who showed the eighth-graders birds native to the Catskill region and spoke about their unique traits.
