B-BP Students are All About Making Healthy Choices

District provides programs to help students make smart decisions at end of school year.

During the season of proms and end-of-year dances, students of Bayport-Blue
Point High School are being encouraged to make healthy choices.

All high school students were required to attend assemblies in which Steve Chassman, Clinical Director of the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD), presented a psycho-educational program focused on students’ behaviors and attitudes. He provided them with the knowledge needed to make better informed decisions and say no to drugs and alcohol. Eleventh and twelfth-grade students were asked to attend the assembly with their parents and prom dates.

“We hope that by providing students and their parents with this information, we are opening the door for conversations to continue at home,” remarked Principal Dr. Timothy Hearney.

Additionally, sixth-grade students of James Wilson Young Middle School were
encouraged by the members of the high school’s SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) organization to write personal letters and draw pictures. These were included in the high school students’ prom invitations, encouraging them to set a good example and make healthy, safe choices.
