B-BP Science Olympiads Earn Berth in State Finals

Team will compete in the state championships later this month.

The Science Olympiad team is headed back to the state championships.

A year after the cut for the state competition by just five points, the team of whiz kids is back where it belongs: on its way upstate to take on New York's finest.

The district's "A" team placed sixth overall--fourth among schools--in the Eastern Long Island Division C competition held last month at Half Hollow Hills East in Dix Hills.

"Once again, our little team that could...did," said the team's longtime coach, Donna Edgar, who gushed about the team in front of the B-BP Board of Education Tuesday night.

"I could not be more proud of these kids," said Edgar, a science teacher at the high school.

The team has now made it to the state competition four of the past five years, Edgar said.

The district's "B" team, with just seven members (of the usual 15), still managed to beat 10 other teams at the regional competition.

The Division C state championships will be held March 30-31 at Canisuis College in Buffalo.
