B-BP Holds Issues Forum 2012, Collects Money for Scholarship

Students in advanced placement class discuss important national issues while raising money for scholarship fund.

Four members of the advanced placement U.S. government and politics class at recently took part in a panel discussion with four members of the high school’s social studies department during the second annual “Issues Forum 2012."

Moderated by English department chairperson Matthew McMullan, the panel discussed the important issues facing Americans today in the context of the 2012 presidential election.  

Students paid two dollars to gain entrance to the panel discussion. They listened intently as their teachers and peers answered questions fielded from the crowd and debated a range of topics from energy conservation to outsourcing.

This year’s fundraiser raised $458 for the Paul E. Harenberg Scholarship Fund in memory of the former Bayport-Blue Point High School teacher. Mr. Harenberg’s wife and son were in attendance.
