B-BP DECA Team Heads to States

Six business club members will compete in New York competition.

Looking to build upon their impressive record from last year, Bayport-Blue Point High School’s DECA chapter commenced this year’s competition season with a strong victory.

In early January the team tested their knowledge against their peers from neighboring school districts as they competed in the annual DECA regional competition at Suffolk Community College’s Ammerman campus.

As a result of their performance at this competition, six Bayport-Blue Point High School students – Ryan Ball, Emily Larsson, Patrick Liu, Victoria Mercouris, Jonathan Panetta and Chandler Varone – qualified for the New York State DECA competition, which will be held March 5-8 in Rochester. Impressively, out of the six students who qualified, two (Liu and Panetta) finished among the top three of their category.

DECA is an interscholastic business organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
