Budget Committee on B-BP BOE Agenda

Tonight's board meeting is at 7 p.m. at high school cafeteria.

The Bayport-Blue Point Board of Education is expected to vote on a memorandum of agreement with the teachers' association, as well as defined tasks for the community budget advisory committee, at tonight's meeting at the high school starting at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.

The memorandum would be attached to the current contractural agreement that expires June, 2013. No information on the new contract amendment is provided in the agenda.

According to the agenda, which is posted on the district's website, the BOE is stipulating the budget advisory committee be limited to 15 members including a maximum of two BOE members and that membership be approved by the BOE.

The authorization proposal states that the committee be organized into a number of subcommittees each led by a chairperson with the initial "charge" that the committee research unfunded mandates and identify the "costliest" and "advocate for elimination or change of said mandates," as well as rcommend a means to educate and rally community support to make such changes.

The other charges for the committee include exploring areas of possible consolidation such as closing buildings, combining elementary grade levels and shared service possibilities. The committtee is also being asked to research cost savings measures used by other districts.
