Academy Street Students Spread Cheer to Senior Citizens

The area's elderly residents receive a holiday surprise from Bayport four and fifth grade peer leaders.

Student members of the Peer Leaders group at in the Bayport-Blue Point School District created a series of holiday greeting cards to share with residents of local nursing facilities in an effort to spread cheer this holiday season.

“Some of the residents can’t leave for the holidays and their families can’t come to see them,” said fourth grader Caroline Ogno. “We hope that these cards will cheer them up and let them know that they are not alone for the holidays. It’s a nice thing to do.”

The Peer Leaders group, supervised by teachers Nicole Greco and Rebecca Tilden, comprises fourth and fifth-grade students who were selected to serve as role models for others in the school.
