Academy Street PTA Notebook; April/May PTA Calendar
Residents and district staff gather once a month for a PTA meeting.
Recent school events and planning future activities led the discussion at the Parent-Teacher Association meeting last week.
Members received reports on the school's recent and Staff Appreciation Day. Both went without a hitch.
Look out for the Academy PTA's next event: A plant sale, set for May 6. The PTA will be getting the plants from , and they need volunteers to help sell them at the school.

will be on May 20. Currently there are 28 acts signed up and there's room for more. The PTA does not charge for this event as a ‘thank you’ for parent’s support throughout the year.
PTA President Christine Grahn said that Bayport parents are always interested in participating in such events.

“We really have a fantastic group of parents that are willing to put in extra effort in helping out," Grahn said. "Whenever I need something, someone always steps up to the plate.”
The PTA will be taking notations for a new board (terms are two years) at their May meeting. In addition, the organization will be requesting volunteers to chair committees for the Bulletin Board, , Hospitality, Newsletter, SIT (School Improvement Team) and Reflections.
Once a month all Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) in the district hold meetings run by their executive boards. Parents, school principles and teachers attend to discuss issues from what snack to serve at a fundraiser to the school budget. The PTA is a volunteer organization and its members work together to make it rewarding for students.
During the Academy Street PTA meetings, the Honor Society provides parents with babysitting services in the school’s gym. The Academy Street PTA feels this makes it easier for parents to attend.
