Bayport-Blue Point Fourth Grader Heading to Regional Spelling Bee

Marisa D'Angelo wins school-wide spelling contest.

Fourth and fifth-grade students from Academy Elementary School recently competed in a school-wide spelling bee.

During the event, the students correctly spelled challenging words as they competed for the title of school spelling bee winner. After 11 challenging rounds of competition and correctly spelling the word “insinuate,” fourth-grader Marisa D’Angelo was named this year’s winner.

As the school spelling bee winner, Marisa has qualified to compete in the Long Island Regional Spelling Bee at Hofstra University in early February.

This year’s second-place winner was fourth-grader Katherine LaFountain. In the event that Marisa is unable to attend the Long Island Regional Spelling Bee, Katherine will advance in the competition.
