Sylvan PTA Gets A+ For Earning Rewards

Stop and Shop program helps PTA raise money for events and activities.

Three years ago Sylvan Avenue Parent-Teacher Association [PTA] member Debra Lurie learned about a fast and simple way to raise funds for the many educational extras the PTA provides: Stop and Shop's A+ School Rewards program.

Lurie immediately jumped at the chance to contribute to the PTA simply by doing the grocery shopping for her family. To enroll in the program, parents just need to register their Stop & Shop rewards cards, and they'll earn rewards points with every dollar spent on each store purchase.

A+ School Reward points can be racked up from October to March. Each point earned is a percentage of the $2.5 million that Stop & Shop has pledged to schools. The more points earned by each school, the greater the percentage of that money they will receive.

Every month the amount of cash awarded to the school will be updated on the Stop & Shop web site. Last year Sylvan received more than $500, and Lurie has a goal of increasing that amount this time around. More than 50 families have registered cards for the benefit of Sylvan so far.

Double and triple reward points can even be earned by purchasing certain products. Another great feature is you do not need to have a child at Sylvan to help the school – family, friends and neighbors can all register their cards for Sylvan too. also participates in this program.
