3 B-BP Lax Student-Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

Brian Ward, Billy Baker and Kaitlyn Leahy are heading to Ohio, Stevens Tech and Stony Brook, respectively.

As many of their peers are just beginning the process for selecting what college or university to attend post graduation, three Bayport-Blue Point High School student-athletes have not only already made that commitment but have also been afforded the chance to continue to perform in the sport they love – lacrosse.

This fall, Brian Ward, Billy Baker and Kaitlyn Leahy all signed National Letters of Intent with some of the nation’s premier colleges and universities.

“This achievement is indicative of the work these students have completed at the youth, interscholastic and varsity levels as well as the commitment they demonstrated in the classroom. Not only are these schools known for their athletic programs but they are also recognized as fantastic academic institutions,” stated District Director of Physical Education, Health and Interscholastic Sports Timothy Mullins.

Ward signed with Ohio State, where he will play on the boys lacrosse team; Baker signed with Stevens Tech, where he will play on the boys lacrosse team; and Leahy will be a member of the girls lacrosse team at Stony Brook University.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
