W. Sayville Residents Urged to Attend Post-Sandy Workshop

West Sayville has been designated a community reconstruction zone.

Islip Town officials are encouraging West Sayville and Oakdale residents to participate in a public open house workshop this week that is focused on how to best spend funds on community reconstruction in the wake of last year's devastating super storm Sandy.

The workshop will be held form 6 p.m. to  9 p.m. at the West Islip Fire House at 309 Union Boulevard on September 17.

In a letter addressed to residents this week, Islip officials note that community input in the workshop, which is a component of the New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program, is critical to identifying work that will have a beneficial regional impact.

"This is a public meeting where you will have the opportunity to voice your opinion, contributing to the community’s reconstructing plans and to recommend those which can have a beneficial regional impact," states the letter.

Two Community Reconstruction Zones, which have been designated by New York State as most affected areas, are Oakdale/West Sayville and West Islip.

The committee for each zone, which consists of residents, business owners, civic associations, planning engineers, NYS and Town of Islip representatives, will be on hand to share the reconstruction planning to date, according to the letter.

"This is a very exciting community event and though the focus of this public open house is not on individual home ownership/elevation issues, your feedback on the community vision, assets, and needs and opportunities is extremely valuable and essential to its success," write Islip officials.
