VIDEO: Capt. Lohmer Returns to Bayport

After spending seven months overseas, Bayport resident Capt. Matthew Lohmer is welcomed back to his hometown through Islip Town program.

Bayport resident US Air Force (USAF) Capt. Matthew Lohmer returned to Long Island Friday after seven months at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

Lohmer received an honorary citation from the Town of Islip upon his homecoming for his courageous efforts serving this country.

Lohmer said he appreciated the small ceremony organized by Parrington and MacArthur Airport Communications Director Catherine Green as part of the Hometown Heroes program.

“I think that Hometown Heroes is a wonderful idea,” Lohmer said.  “I worked so hard overseas for long periods and it was so nice to be recognized for my efforts."
