Two Sayville Beaches Closed

County health department finds bacteria levels at Marina Park Beach, Sayville Beach above 'acceptable' levels.

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services (SCDHS) has closed two Great South Bay beaches in Sayville because of high bacteria levels.

According to a statement from SCDHS on Saturday night, Sayville Marina Park Beach and Sayville Beach are closed to bathing because bacterial numbers from Saturday’s samples were found to be in excess of acceptable criteria.

Typically, bacteria levels at local beaches increase following periods of strong rains or severe storms. On Friday, the Sayville area was impacted by afternoon storms that flooded local roads and spawned a that impacted several nearby communities including Great River, Bohemia and Ronkonkoma.
