Town WiFi Coming to Blue Point Rec Center

Henrietta Acampora Recreation Center in Blue Point is one of nine locations that will offer residents connectivity.

A new contract between Brookhaven Town and Cablevision will provide WiFi hot spot access at nine town locations, including the Henrietta Acampora Recreation Center in Blue Point.

According to a town press release there will be no cost to the town for the design, installation and deployment of the service. It's a free service for Cablevision customers but those who aren't will have two payment options:  free access one time per day for 10 minutes for a total of three uses in a 30-day timeframe or a daily rate of $4.99.

Other “hot spots” include town hall, the Parks Administration Building in Centereach, Brookhaven Calabro Airport, Heritage Park in Mount Sinai, Mastic Pool and Skate Park, Medford Athletic Complex, Rose Caracappa Recreation Center in Mount Sinai and West Meadow Beach in Stony Brook.

Cablevision was the sole respondent to a town request for Proposals for WiFi which was issued in August of 2011.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
