Parent workshops, teen drop-in nights offered throughout October

Bayport-Blue Point Patch offers a look at what's happening in Islip Town from local teen drop-in night to interactive parenting workshops that are offered.

Interactive parenting workshops: The town's Youth & Family Counseling Program, along with Brentwood Y.D.C., will begin offering an interactive workshop series for parents to explore the various challenges of adolescent parenting. The first series runs for five consecutive Fridays through October 29.The workshop will be held at the Caesar Trunzo Senior Center, 16 Second Avenue in Brentwood.

Fun teen drop-in night: The South Shore Community Organization will be providing fun, safe, supervised programming for teens every Friday night, 7 p.m.-9 p.m., at the Joyce Fitzpatrick Center on Irish Lane in East Islip. Activities will include movie nights, Wii games, board games, karaoke and more.

TOI presents checks to foundations: Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan and Councilman John Edwards recently presented checks in the amount of $4,388.54 to both the EJ Autism Foundation and the Boomer Esiason Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis. The checks to each charity represent proceeds raised from the Second Annual Great South Bay Youth and Adult Triathlons held in June. 

Councilman attends breast cancer function: Islip Town Councilman Steve Flotteron recently attended The West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition's 16th Annual Henry Gates Clam Shucking Contest. Proceeds from this event provide support through its Lend a Helping Hand Program to Nassau and Suffolk residents undergoing treatment for breast or gynecological cancer.
