'Tis the Season: Politicians Crash Bayport Civic Meeting

Town of Islip incumbents seeking re-election pop in at civic to talk issues, campaign.

The Bayport Civic Association meeting had a full agenda Tuesday night as well as a few surprise guests, including two Town of Islip Councilpersons seeking re-election this November.

Islip Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt and colleague Steve Flotteron unexpectedly dropped by the civic meeting and asked to address the audience.

Bergin Weichbrodt talked about real estate consolidation moves she’s instigated to save town funds, and Flotteron displayed a rough draft of a map he is creating to promote town historical spots.

Just like the political signs that are appearing rapidly from Bayport to West Sayville, the impromptu appearances are clear signs election season in Islip town is getting into full swing.

Which brings us to the big question of whether incumbents will succeed or if voters want change given the power tussles council members, especially Bergin Weichbrodt, have had this past year with Supervisor Tom Croci.

What do you think the election will bring? New faces or the same party in power?

Our new open blog, The Soapbox-Islip Government, hopes to be the place where locals can debate these kids of issues in town.
