State Aid Restoration Won't Affect Bayport-Blue Point Budget

The state announced the restoration of some education funding, but Bayport-Blue Point receives meager additional funds.

State lawmakers announced an agreement earlier this week on a $132.5 billion budget, which includes the restoration of $272 million in education funding.

Bayport-Blue Point only received a small give back in additional aid, increasing from $1,568,651 to $1,696,651. The district got back approximately $128,000, which is some $122,000 less than the district projected they would receive.

“We thought we’d get back $250,000,” said Bayport-Blue Point’s Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations, Michael Cipriani, noting they already accounted for the aforementioned amount. “There’s no net effect of getting these funds, we’ll just absorb the difference with our fund balance.”

At the most recent meeting of the Board of Education, the tax levy was at 4.17 percent, according to Cipriani. At the upcoming budget meeting on Tuesday, April 5- the final budget meeting- the board will decide what items they’re going to take out or keep in budget, Cipriani said.
