Sayville Students Get Unique Opportunity to Meet Local Veterans

Sayville veterans share experiences, memories with middle school students.

Thank you to Joan Furey, senior vice commander of VFW Post 433 in Sayville for sharing this!

In honor of Veterans Day, the Sayville Middle School invited Sayville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 433 to join them at morning assembly on November 9 and lead the student body in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Principal Tom Murray opened the assembly by talking about how the freedoms we have in America have been secured by the service and sacrifices of the men women of the United States military and that everyone should remember that "Freedom is Not Free."

He then introduced each veteran to the student body, sharing a brief description of their military service. The veterans received a warm round of applause from everyone present. Principal Murray then presented them with a 15 foot "Thank You" banner, signed by the students and staff of the Middle School.

It was a very touching experience for the veterans and they thanked students for remembering them and all the men and women who have served, and are serving this great country.

Post 433 also assured everyone, that after being displayed at our annual dinner for hospitalized veterans on December 1, we will send their banner to our troops serving overseas so they to will know that the students and staff of Sayville Middle School appreciate their service.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
