Islip Democrats have nominated its slate of candidates to challenge two Republican incumbents in this November’s race for Town Council.

East Islip resident Dafny Irizarry and Sayville’s Ken Mangan will face GOP council members Trish Bergin Weichbrodt and Steve Flotteron, according to a report in Newsday.

Mangan owns a bread company and formerly served as a Suffolk County senior advocate.

The two Republicans are expected to secure their party’s nomination.

Irizarry teaches English as a second language with the Central Islip School District.

Gerry Pallotta, chairman of the Islip Democratic Committee, told Newsday that his party’s candidates will seek to return transparency and accountability to Town Hall.

Islip GOP Chairman Frank Tantone said, “It should be an interesting race and we look forward to a hard campaign and the voters will have a choice come November.”
