Rescued Pets Need Homes

Looking for a pet? There are 22 dogs and more than 60 cats that need a home after they were among 150 animals rescued last week from an overrun Medford home.

Officials with the Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter and Adoption Center announced they are now showing these dogs and cats. So far 12 dog adoptions are pending leaving 10 available as of the announcement, and all of the cats are available.

Two rescued cats were reunited with their rightful owners who contacted Brookhaven Town reporting their pet as missing. Seven rabbits rescued will also be shown to the public this weekend.

All adopted cats and dogs will be spayed and neutered at no charge before being taken home.

Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) had announced last week that several of the animals rescued from the home require long-term veterinary care.

Brookhaven Animal Shelter's hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding Wednesday during which the shelter is closed. The shelter's weekend hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The shelter is located at 200 Horseblock Road, Brookhaven, NY, 11719.
