MacArthur Airport To Host Second Annual 5K Run

Race will benefit military veterans across Long Island.

With the goal of raising funds to help military veterans in Suffolk and Nassau counties, Long Island MacArthur Airport will host the second annual 5K Run/Walk for Veterans on Saturday, June 4.

Presented by the New York State Fraternal Order of Police, Islip Lodge #862, the racecourse takes participants on to the airport’s taxiways and provides runners a unique opportunity to run at an active airport.

All proceeds will go to benefit Long Island 9-1-1 Veterans, a group focused on assisting local veterans who are experiencing short-term emergencies as they work to overcome the challenges of re-entering civilian life after serving in combat.

According to the organization, 9-1-1 Veterans serves veterans of all eras. However, the most pressing need currently is the military veterans that have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. With the job market still challenging, some veterans find getting a job difficult.

9-1-1 Veterans provides an array of assistance that includes providing food and clothing, rent and mortgage subsidies, utility payment, medical co-payments and car repairs.
