Local Legislator Gets Coveted Award From Women Voters

Lindsay is first elected official to receive award.

The Suffolk County League of Women Voters recently honored Suffolk County Legislature’s Presiding Officer William J. Lindsay as their 2013 Liberty Award recipient.

Lindsay is the first elected official to receive this award in the history of the Suffolk County League of Women Voters.

“I want to thank the League of Women Voters for this special honor,” said Lindsay.

“The members of this organization have participated in many of our legislative meetings, and they work tirelessly to register new voters. I greatly value their continued efforts toward engaging active participants in our democratic process.”

The Liberty Award was established in 2001 in order to honor an individual or organization that is passionate and demonstrates leadership. Lisa Scott, President of the Suffolk County League of Women Voters, recently defined Lindsay as a decent, fair, patient, insightful, intelligent, and patriotic statesman.

“Bill’s twelve years in the County Legislature, particularly his eight years as Presiding Officer, reflect his passion for good government,” said Scott.
