Today Bayport-Blue Point voters will cast their ballot for or against the proposed Bayport-Blue Point Library budget and elect one trustee to the board for a five-year term.
The proposed budget of $2,206,174 features a 1.94 percent tax rate increase over this year's current budget of $2,164,226.98.
The new tax rate would be .99 cents for Islip Town taxpayers and $13.60 for Brookhaven Town homeowners. In both towns the library portion of the property tax bill is approximately 4 percent of the total bill, according to a budget brochure created by the library.
Three residents are vying for the seat being vacated by Stephen Kelly who has decided to not run for re-election to the five-year position after fulfilling an unexpired trustee term since April 2009. There are seven members on the board.
The candidates are Blue Point resident Murray Schwartz, Blue Point resident Kimberly Matthews McAward and Elaine Hill, a 20-year Bayport resident
